The Nurts and SJMC Collaborate to Connect Families Health Through Storytelling

The Nurts and Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) have launched The Nurts Tales: Growing Strong, Inside and Out. The children's storybook integrates engaging narratives with healthcare expertise to promote essential family discussions. Targeted at children aged four to eight, it addresses emotional well-being, healthy habits, nutrition and illness comprehension through five relatable stories featuring characters such as Zoey, Mia, Liam, Noah and Teddy Paws, the mascot of SJMC. These narratives aim to simplify complex health topics and encourage meaningful conversations within families.

Adrian Tan, Co-founder of The Nurts stated, "Starting conversations about health can be challenging for parents. Through storytelling, we aim to make these discussions more approachable and create safe spaces for learning." Joanne Lee, SJMC’s Director of Business Development emphasized the book's role in bringing health education to life, encouraging curiosity and healthy choices among young readers. Beyond storytelling, the publication includes reflection prompts, discussion questions and practical guidance for parents, underscoring storytelling's significance in enhancing children's emotional wellbeing and health literacy. Dr. Sanjay Woodhull, a Consultant Paediatrician at SJMC, noted that storytelling effectively introduces health concepts, helping parents navigate difficult conversations.

The event featured a conversation on children's wellbeing with representatives from The Nurts and SJMC. SJMC contributed copies of the storybook to selected children's NGOs to broaden its reach. A three-month community book tour will take place promoting the book in major bookstores to empower Malaysian children. "The Nurts Tales: Growing Strong, Inside and Out" can be purchased at major bookstores and online at The Nurts' website.
